Moodbidri, Sep 21: Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE), here was on Monday awarded ‘Best Performing College of the Year 2020’ at the 43rd series of the Student Project Programme of Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).
The award ceremony was conducted through a virtual mode on Monday September 21. Also, four projects from MITE were awarded the 'Best Project of the year -2020'. The event is supported by the Department of Science & Technology of State Government through KSCST. A total of 23 innovative projects from MITE had bagged sponsorship through KSCST in 2019-20.
Four student projects of MITE from various departments were selected for the Best Project of the Year Award. The project 'Design and Modeling of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine to extract energy from Highways to Power Electric Vehicle charging Stations' by Sanjay M V, Clavin W Sequeira, T D Teeshma and Vishalakshi T B was guided by Vishwareetha K R, assistant professor of the department of Aeronautical Engineering. The project 'Generation of Photo Realistic Images using GAN and SPADE' by Adarsh K R, Akshaya M, Shubham Dogra was guided by Dr Venkatramana Bhat P, professor and head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. The project 'Intelligent Wiper system for Vehicles' by Arun Kumar, Prasad, Suman P N, Vishwanatha J was guided by Dony A D’Souza, senior assistant professor of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The project 'Remote operated Arecanut plucking and spraying Machine' by Pramith Shetty, Venkatesh Prabhu N, Rakesh, Ashwin K was guided by Purandara Naik and Bhanuprakash H S, assistant professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Congratulating all the winning teams and project guides, Rajesh Chouta, chairman of MITE applauded the Departments for consistently winning the award at KSCST. He said that MITE has always promoted innovation by embracing the best teaching methodologies with highly experienced and resourceful faculty, and been at the forefront in providing leading technology-enabled learning to its students in Engineering and Management Studies through collaborations with top global companies like SIEMENS, KPIT, UiPath, Rexroth Bosch, Infosys and Carl-Zeiss. This has enabled the students to work on solutions and project ideas for real-world problems. This he said has resulted in students consistently winning laurels at the reputed state and national events.
The selection
The student proposals from around the state are reviewed by an expert panel that has senior scientists from the renowned Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and other national labs. Selected projects are funded by KSCST. On completion, the projects are again reviewed by the expert panel which selects the projects for seminar and exhibition based on the innovation and its contribution to society at large. This year, a total of 999 projects were selected for funding and MITE won the ‘Best Performing college of the Year’ amongst all the participating colleges, for the maximum number of projects sanctioned and the selected best projects.
MITE at KSCST
With 23 project sponsorships in 2020, MITE continued to prove its excellence in the technical talents of its students in receiving the sponsorship from KSCST. Previously in 2019, MITE had bagged sponsorship for 28 projects and won the best project for two projects. Also, in 2018 one student project of MITE had bagged the best project.
