Kasargod, Aug 5: “As the virus is contracted due to contacts, the next 14 days are critical,” said deputy commissioner Dr Sajith Babu. He was speaking after presiding over the coronavirus advisory committee meeting held online on Wednesday.

“There is no permission to open shops, finance companies and hotels in the areas declared as clusters. Traffic is banned. 4,300 beds are kept ready as coronavirus is spreading at a fast rate. Passes will be issued only to people going to work to a specific destination in Karnataka. They should provide the address of their employment. They should undergo Antigen tests once in seven days. Those are arranged in Talapady. They should compulsorily get themselves registered on COVID web portal,” he said.

He asked education officials to conduct investigations of excessive fees being charged by private educational institutions and submit a report. “The committee of education department deputy director, district education officer and assistant education officers have been directed to conduct investigations in all the educational institutes and submit a report.”

“Ration shops may conduct business in areas other than containment zones from 10 am to 5 pm and can be opened from 11 am to 5 pm in containment zones.”

DSP D Shilpa, assistant DC Arun K Vijayan, additional DC N Devidas, district medical officer Dr A V Ramadas and various department officials were present.

Over 128 people were reported to have been infected with the virus in the district on Wednesday. 119 people out of them are infected by contacts. Five people have arrived from abroad and four arrived from outside the state. With that, the number of infected people in the district has shot up to 2,195. 927 among them are under treatment and 4,162 people are under observation. Meanwhile, 1,216 are in the isolation wards.

Around 54 are infected in Kasargod. 22 in Pallikere, 15 in Kumble, seven in Nileshwar, eight in Minja, four in Mangalpady, five in Madhur, two in Ajanoor and one each in Trikaripur, Badiadka, Mogral Puttur, Kumbdaje, Chengala, Uduma, Madikai, West Eleri and Kinanoor Karidala gram panchayat limits have reported the cases.
