Kundapur, Jul 27: Gangolli happens to house an important fishing port in Udupi district. The main road here is dotted with pits and potholes and as a result, movement of pedestrians and vehicles has been adversely affected.
The stretch of the road from Gangolli gram panchayat office to the port, bus stand and the water tank has been thoroughly damaged. As there is no proper arrangement for the water to drain away during the rainy session, water gets accumulated on the roads. Vehicle riders, therefore, fail to gauge the existence of potholes. They often fall down and suffer injuries or ditch efforts to avoid potholes. But even then accidents do occur. Therefore, the locals have urged for the proper arrangement of the water to flow away.
A sum of Rs 1.47 crore has been sanctioned for the concreting work of the main road. Because of lockdown restrictions, the work has been delayed. Under the current situation, using the main road at Gangolli has become very difficult and risky. The citizens have urged the authorities to repair the road by filling the holes. The main road is set to witness the increased movement of people and vehicles shortly as mechanized fishing will resume and educational institutions might start functioning soon.
Therefore, the people have demanded that the potholes on the main road are repaired soon and the road repair work be undertaken at the earliest.
Gangolli Nagarika Horata Samiti president Chikkayya Poojary has demanded to repair the main road at the earliest so that the people can make use of the road till concretizing work is taken up. PWD engineer at Kundapur, Raghavendra Naik, said that work on road concretizing will begin as soon as the rainy season comes to an end.
