Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 27: Dakshina Kannada on Monday July 27 recorded 119 fresh cases and eight deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi also reported yet another spike with 225 new cases.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 33,888 samples have been tested so far. As many as 28,958 have turned out negative, and 4,930 are positive till date. Out of these, 2,502 cases are currently active. As many as 2,297 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 131 deaths have occurred so far, including eight on Monday.
As many as 80 patients were discharged on Monday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Among the 119 new cases are 46 primary contacts, 34 with influenza-like illness (ILI), and six with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). As many as 33 cases are under investigation.
The eight patients who died on Monday, include a 68-year-old male from Hubballi. He was admitted to private hospital on July 23, and breathed his last on the same day. He was suffering from refractory hypoxemia and refractory ARDS. Another is a 64-year-old male from Mangaluru. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 20, and passed away on July 25. He was suffering from refractory hypoxemia, hypertension, diabetes, asthma and heart disease. The third patient was a 65-year-old male from Bantwal. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 22, and passed away on July 26. He was suffering from blood pressure and pneumonia. The fourth patient was an 82-year-old man from Udupi. He was admitted to a private hospital on June 25, and passed away on July 26. He was suffering from HTN, TADM, CAD, OLD MI, pneumonia, respiratory issues and heart disease. The fifth patient was a 65-year-old man from Mangaluru. He was admitted to a private hospital on July 19, and passed away on July 26. He was suffering from severe ARDS, septic shock, acute kidney injury, MRRT, DM and hypertension. The sixth patient was a 65-year-old female from Mangaluru. She was admitted to private hospital on July 22 and passed away on July 27. She was suffering from refractory hypoxemia, refractory ARDS, septic shock, secondary bacterial infection, renal failure, acute coronary event, arrhythmias and pulmonary thromboembolism. The seventh patient was a 51-year-old male from Mangaluru. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 26 and passed away on July 27. He was suffering from pneumonia. The eight patient was a 92-year-old female. She was admitted to Wenlock hospital on July 18 and passed away on July 26. She was suffering from blood pressure, diabetes and pneumonia.
The district administration said that though the above patients contracted coronavirus, the exact cause of their deaths is being investigated by a team of experts and their report is awaited.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and an equal number have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,525 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 261 people are in isolation wards, including 42 fresh admissions on Monday. Among the new admissions, 12 are COVID suspects, 15 each have SARI and influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,494 people, including 41 on Monday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 28,510 samples have been collected so far, including 223 on Monday, out of which 117 are COVID suspects and 66 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 24,621 have turned out to be negative, including 286 on Monday, and 276 reports are awaited.
As many as 3,613 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 225 on Monday. As many as 2,184 patients have been discharged so far, and 1,415 cases are currently active. As per district bulletin, 14 deaths have occurred so far. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada. As many as 51 people were discharged on Monday.
