India’s second digital strike on China: Union govt bans 47 Chinese apps

New Delhi, Jul 27 (IANS): Nearly a month after banning 59 Chinese apps, the Indian government has barred 47 more Chinese apps from operating in the country, which were largely clones of the previously banned apps, sources said.

The list of the concerned mobile applications will be published soon.

An official source told IANS said that the latest apps to be banned were found to be cloning the previously banned apps.

The development comes days after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) directed the 59 banned apps to strictly adhere to the orders or face serious action in case of violation.

The Ministry has written to all the companies concerned and said that making the apps available, directly or indirectly, would violate IT Act and other laws.

On June 29 the government had last month banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, WeChat and UC Browser and Xiaomi's Mi Community over national security concerns amid the border tussle in Ladakh which led to the death of 20 Indian soldiers in the Galwan Valley clash with Chinese PLA troops.

"These measures have been undertaken since there is credible information that these apps are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order," MeitY's statement had said.

According to the ministry, the move would safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile users.

Other Chinese apps in the banned list were Club Factory, SHAREit, Likee, Mi Video Call (Xiaomi), Weibo, Baidu, BIGO LIVE and more.

We Indians have come a long way... Nations around the world are now realizing the potentials of our software power, we are no more a pushover nation... The incredible vital decisions taken by PM Modiji, has created a panorama of appreciation n respect in the eyes of the international community... This is certainly a blessing in disguise, for budding software engineers, who i believe can develop such apps/ startups, on their own merits !!!

Banning a few apps does not cause any trouble to the Chinese Government.

China is far ahead on many counts. Look at the internal R&D spent by three countries:

    USA (2019): $581 billion

    China (2019): $310 billion

    India (2016/17): $14 billion.

Indians spend their time mocking and laughing at others. Chinese spend time in Research and Development.

Already UC bowser and club factory have thrown out 100s of Indian employees,; club factory has not even paid its employees & suppliers citing certain legal provisions!

TikTok has recently picked up at least 200 brilliant people from FB & Google by offering them double remuneration for their US office!

Recently mark Zuckerberg was reported as saying that he was worried that one fine day his FB too could be kicked out like TikTok!

It would be foolish to single out China as all other platforms like FB, Google WhatsApp also do the same thing on spying on the user no less than Chinese apps! They are not Gods who operate here to serve us for free,

Banning apps will be counterproductive and cause more loss to us!
Till the military attack our cybersecurity experts were sleeping & suddenly they came to know these apps are spies!
Imho, this is just a knee jerk reaction to divert attention from burning issues going on here, funny isn't it!
These people should understand that in a global economy these so called cyber surgical strikes against a military strike shows our timidness & desperation!
Get ready for a fitting reply from them! It's better not escalate the trade stand off in interests of both parties !

Actually, smart Trump is using us as a Bunny in their stand off with China!

I love my country. I love India. I am not degrading it. The current government is degrading it. Why is there no muh thod jawab. Why no surgical strike? When some country's majority belongs to particular community there are speeches against them (to please particular community here) but why now silent? Why no surgical strike now? Why no aggressive action? Why not taking its name and not attacking them publicly on the govt. purchased news channels? Blocking apps? Is this the best they can do? Come on now..

Did Heaven warn on Chinese invasion / incursion plans before? Dated September 13th 2019...

“I ask the children of the West to pray and to realize that the Chinese forces are only exercising their strength, but soon will overflow over all of Asia. I call on India to become alert and to protect its land, because the Chinese invasion of Asia will rock the boat very strongly.”...

Digital Strike is good and must be welcomed as it hurts Chinese economy but it does not compensate the loss of territory.

Siachin is one of the most difficult terrain which our soldiers are protecting. It is a horrible place. Yet, for security and military point of view it is one of the most strategic point to handle pak and china. If we loose such militarily important cum strategic land locations, we will be bleeding badly. Our defense will loose edge in combating Chinese if there it comes to that.

China if it was really hurt by the move, logic says, it would have taken retaliatory economical measures as counter. It is acting as if nothing much changed and focusing more on the land aggression part. It gets more important therefore, to push the Chinese back from encroached territory.

What a lovely second round of digital surgical precison strikes! With every single app banned, the Chinese economy is bleeding 20 Billion dollars a day. With every app blocked, we are reclaiming our stolen/occupied/disputed land at the rate of 2 sq km per app.
