Mangaluru, Jul 25: Fr Cyprian Pinto completed his tenure of seven years as the parish priest of St Joseph the worker church, Vamanjoor.
He will take over as the parish priest of St Sebastian Church, Permannur on Wednesday July 29. On the occasion, a thanksgiving mass and a farewell programme were organized on Saturday July 25.
The mass was celebrated by Fr Cyprian Pinto. After the mass, a citation was presented by Rohan Pereira, the vice-president of the parish pastoral council. In the citation, the pastoral services rendered as well as infrastructural work- such as the construction of ‘Vamanjoor Sabhabhavan, renovation of the church and altar, renovation of the cemetery and construction of the main entrance gate undertaken by Fr Cyprian Pinto were highlighted.
As a token of love and appreciation Junifer Alvares, a member of the parish finance committee was honoured by Fr Cyprian Pinto with a shawl. A traditional ‘Peta’ was adorned by Jerald Monteiro, the co-ordinator of the committees. Fr Cyprian was garlanded by Alwyn Albuquerque, a member of the parish finance committee. Sr Juliet Lobo, provincial, SRA Sisters offered a bowl of fruits and Sr Cecilia Mendonca, provincial of Bethany Sisters offered a bouquet of flowers. Mementos were presented by Anita Colaco, secretary of the parish pastoral council and
Stany Cutinha, member of the parish finance committee. Charles Pais, the editor of the parish bulletin ‘Kameli’ special issue, presented a copy of the bulletin.
In his farewell speech, Fr Cyprian Pinto thanked God for the opportunity given to serve in the parish where he was ordained priest on May 2, 1988. He recalled the support received from the government, representatives of people, donors, friends and parishioners towards the developmental works. He reiterated his faith in God and motivated the parishioners to trust and pray to God for their well being and others. He thanked everyone who contributed toward the growth of the parish. He specially remembered and thanked the priests of St Joseph Engineering College and the religious sisters – SRA, Bethany, Ursuline and Luciana for their unstinted co-operation, involvement in the overall development of the parish.
He requested the parishioners to keep him in their prayers and support him in his future projects when undertaken, if possible.
Fr Cyprian is a kind-hearted person and ever willing to help the needy. He has been a role model for all the sections of society. He carved a niche in the minds of the localites irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
The parishioners will always remember him for his contributions and cherish the good memories of the past seven years. They also assured their prayers for Fr Cyprian for his mission.
The parishioners with enthusiasm and emotion participated in the programme keeping the safety regulations in mind.
