Panaji, Jul 22: The opposition parties in Goa on Wednesday objected to the decision by the Pramod Sawant-led government to pass the budget during one day Assembly session. The session is scheduled to be held on July 27.

The opposition parties have urged the Business Advisory Committee, a body which decides on the business for the House, not to place the budget during the upcoming session but can pass vote-on-account for the next four months.

Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai tweeting on the matter said, "Undercover of #pandemic @GoaGovt to pass whole anti-Goan agenda in 1 day! 7 ordinances, 5 Bills, all demands pertaining to irrelevant pre#COVID budget to be passed without discussion. Our demand at BAC- Discussion Covid19, financial situation and environment."

Digambar Kamat dissents:

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat told reporters in Panaji that he has given in writing his dissent to the decision of Goa government to hurriedly pass the budget during upcoming session.

“It is very important that a day-long session must give utmost priority to the issues like COVID pandemic, the financial situation of the state, the revival of economy and environmental issues like proposed projects causing damage to Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that the government is trying to bulldoze the democratic right of the elected representatives of the people to voice issues concerning the common man and wants to pass the Budget without a proper discussion on the same,” the LoP said.

Kamat said that the other issues and business such as the passing of bills must be undertaken in the next session with a longer duration to enable all the members to discuss and give their views on such bills in the interest of the state.
