Dubai, Jul 13: Noted Konkani critic and stage actor Nanu Marol Thottam (Clarence Stephen Fernandes) has been elected as the convener of Daiji Writers Forum, a prominent forum of Konkani writers in UAE. He will team up with Sunil Fernandes Kota as co-convener and Santhosh D’Souza Perla as treasurer. The election for the term 2020-2022 was held recently under the supervision of Dayan D’Souza, the pillar and founder member of Daiji Writers Forum.
Nanu Marol Thottam acclaimed critic of Konkani Literature and a veteran stage actor is a senior member of Daiji Dubai forum. He is has a rich experience of writing and has been giving his service for the last three decades in Konkani literature. He also has rich experience in leading various organisations in UAE like Karaval Milan and SAKATH Thottam.

Sunil Fernandes Kota is famous for his humorous writings. His humour based articles were published in various periodicals. Being the Daiji Dubai forum member for the last 18 years he also has a rich experience of leadership in Karaval Milan.
Santhosh Perla a budding writer with his strong viewpoints is a graduate in law and native of Maniyampare Church (former Ukkinadka Church) of Kasargod deanery, is a well-known youth leader of the deanery. He served as president of Kasargod deanery ICYM from 2000-2011 and president of Emirates Konkans Kasargod.
The outgoing co-convener Naveen Sequeira on behalf of outgoing convener Dinesh Correa expressed gratitude, showed appreciation for member’s faith and declared his complete backing to the new team. In his inaugural speech, Nanu Marol Thottam thanked the members, appealed for the support and assured to carry on with the literary missions of Daiji Writers Forum. Further, he said it is a big responsibility entrusted on him to lead such an esteemed organization like Daiji Dubai. Sunil Fernandes Kota and Santhosh Perla supported him.
Daiji Writers Forum was formed in 1999 has grown leaps and bounds during last 19 years of ‘telltale’ history, that includes conferring annual literary awards and lifetime achievement awards, arranging workshops on literature, cultural programmes, Konkani standup comedy shows, the publication of books, providing financial assistance to needy writers and getting involved in several other causes of Konkani.
At the same time elections were also held for Daiji Rang Madir, an association of Konkani Theatre artistes, residing in Dubai.
Darrel D’Souza Vamanjoor, an energetic and well-known personality to theatre lovers, was unanimously elected as convener of Daiji Rang Mandir. While Melwyn Kalakul was elected as the co-convener.
Darrel and Melwyn popularly known as Lav-Kush of Konkani stage are the trained artistes from Konkani Drama repertory Kalakul. Their rich experience of acting talent is already enjoyed and appreciated by the UAE stage audience.
