Mangaluru: Family members wait with body for COVID test report

Mangaluru, Jul 11: A woman who got herself tested for COVID-19 after falling ill suddenly died within a day of undergoing the test. As the test report was not received, the family members were forced to wait at home for the report with the lifeless body of the woman in question. After a long wait, the report was received on Friday evening, confirming that the woman was corona positive.

This is just one example about the problems created by coronavirus for the common people.

The victim, identified as a 75-year-old lady from Suratkal Krishnapura had been taken to a private hospital as she was suffering from rheumatism some days back. She was continuing with the treatment prescribed by this hospital. During her recent visit to the hospital, the private practitioner advised her to get herself tested for COVID-19 and furnish a report. She went to the district Wenlock Hospital on July 8 and returned home after providing a throat swab sample there. On July 9, she died unexpectedly.

The officials told the family members that the funeral cannot be performed till the report is received. Therefore, the family kept the body at home and waited for about 24 hours. A coronavirus positive report was received on Friday evening, which gave rise to concern among the people living in the area. The deceased woman and family lived in a rented house. Therefore, the family members now face the need to get tested for the infection.

It is learnt that the body was taken to Wenlock Hospital by ambulance and a funeral was performed at the graveyard at Boloor here.

    The officials need some better education in medical field and atleast some good expertise in handling a situation during pandemic. the so called officials are duely responsible for next spread of covid 19 in that area as body was kept for 24 hrs.

    What rule made the officials to compel the family not to perform last rites till the report came ? They feared it might be positive ? What if positive ? She died anyway and obviously all members in the family are at risk. If the cremation had been done at the earliest, at-least the visitors could have been less.

    Height of stupidity ?? How much more should we Indians wait to get instant result whether a sample is positive or negative ?? At-least in cases like this ? Are we living in stone age ??

    Yes exactly.
    they say once there is no breath in body it wont spread but still she was there at home when she was sick . god knows how many are infected. look at these people - they are not allowing the body to cremate till we get the report....

    We Indians were thinking India is safe, and karnataka is safe too in positive cases. and DK is very good comparing to udupi. and Mangalore is superb no cases.

    But now India has reached third place and soon we will go to second place in covid positive cases(pray to almighty this should not happen) look at karnataka total cases are increasing day by day
    and DK every day above century.
    yes coming to Mangalore its getting worse.

    Some areas in DK have voluntarily closed their business.
    now beauty parlours have decided to close.
    lets wait what next.... since our Government/district authority will not pass an order to close for few days.... its in our hand..
    above is the fact. just we have to protect ourself/our family/our surroundings. Also lets pray that this virus will vanish soon.

    Why shud they wait for corona report.
    If she is a suspect then simply consider her positive and bury her under Covid protocols, after the swab is taken.
    Why to simply delay her burial as long as the patient family has no problem?!
    Wat stupidity is this?

    Any aged or other health related women / men visiting any hospital for any kind of treatment will 100% Transmitted other infections and coronaVirus and which will lead to death due to hospital visit, None of the hospitals in and around Mangalore are fumigated or disinfected and lack of hygiene standards, kindly avoid visiting

    As per above news, the lady died within one day of her visit to Wenlock Hospital. If the death of lady is due to coronavirus, the source of infection is NOT Wenlock Hospital in this case.

    She was suffering from Rheumatism or rheumatic disorders are conditions causing chronic, often intermittent pain affecting the joints or connective tissue.

    when she was treating there she got infected by this deadly virus
