Kasargod, Jul 8: The district has recorded its first death due to coronavirus on the evening of Tuesday, July 7. The resident of Mogral Puttur in the district, who died at Kasargod general hospital, tested positive for the deadly infection.
The deceased person was a merchant in Hubballi. He was admitted in a serious condition to the Kasargod general hospital on Tuesday. However, he died within few minutes of getting admitted to the hospital.
The deceased person was brought to Talapady from Hubballi in an ambulance and then taken to Kasargod general hospital in a car. In the preliminary investigation that was conducted in the hospital it was noticed that the deceased had symptoms of coronavirus. However, the throat swab sample was sent to the laboratory for confirmation and the result was received on the afternoon of Wednesday July 8 in which it was confirmed that the person had coronavirus infection.

Two of the relatives of the deceased, who brought the person to the hospital are placed in quarantine. The district officials said that the burial of the deceased person will take place as per Covid-19 protocol.
The first coronavirus positive case in Kasargod was recorded on February 3. So far 534 people are infected with Covid-19 in the district. Out of this 399 people have recovered, while 135 people are still under treatment.
