Mangaluru, Jul 5: The two children who were trapped under the debris following a landslip at Banglagudde here on Sunday July 5 have died.
The landslip occured at Banglagudde in Gurupur here.
The deceased have been identified as Safwan (16) and Sahala (10), both reportedly from same family.
The landslip buried at least three houses that were in the vicinity, putting several families in danger.
After hours of efforts, the locals with the help of the police were able to bring out the children, but they were already dead by then, it is learnt.
Locals rushed to the spot and began rescue operations with the help of the police.
Several other houses in the vicinity are said to be in danger. Sources said that the hillock had started giving way right from morning, before collapsing on the house.
District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and officials of the district administration visited the spot.
Families living in 14 houses in the vicinity are being evacuated to a safer spot.
Minister Poojary assured the families that new houses would be built for them by the government.
The locals expressed anger against the people's representatives who arrived at the spot, saying that they had come too late.
Fire personnel, NDRF personnel, police and the locals together conducted the rescue operations. They also removed an auto rickshaw that had got buried under the debris. Five JCBs were used for the operation.
