Mangaluru, Jun 27: Residents of Ullal are in shock as 12 members of a family living in a house have tested positive for coronavirus.
A female member of the family had tested positive a few days ago after which the house was sealed down and the inmates were under quarantine. Now 12 others have tested positive. The family consists of 17 members out of which 13 members are now affected by coronavirus.
Mastikatte area in Ullal has been sealed down.
Infection was found in two police officials of Ullal police station. Two other staff members who were in contact with them also are tested positive. Two other people who had returned from abroad and are in quarantine in a private resort in Ullal also are tested positive. Two workers of private food manufacturing company of Deralakatte are also confirmed positive. They are under treatment in a private hospital. The health department has collected the throat swabs of the infected for tests. The reports are expected in two days.
As many as 200 houses of Azadnagar are in voluntary lockdown. Ullal municipal council officials have put barricades to prevent entry of outsiders there. MLA U T Khader visited the sealed down houses and conducted a meeting.
He said that road side vendors and other traders will be subjected to tests. Ward committees are formed to keep a watch on infected areas.
