Kundapur, Jun 25: Finally, one can expect the flyover near the Shastri Circle here to be completed in all respects soon and vehicles may be allowed to use it.
Work on highway expansion had come to a standstill after income tax raid was conducted on the owner of Navayuga company, which had bagged highway widening work contract. Particularly work on the service road, underpass and flyover had come to a screeching halt.
On account of warnings by officials, pressure mounted by people's representative and constant agitation undertaken by the people, the work acquired some speed. Corona lockdown had forced the work to stall again. Now, the dream of the underpass getting ready is nearing reality.
As far as the flyover is concerned, work on one side has been completed. Tar has also been applied. Work on the other side is in progress. With this, the hopes of the people of being able to use the flyover have been rekindled.
Work on the flyover here has been going on since over a decade. The people had been demanding early execution of the flyover near the Shastri Circle here and the underpass near Basrur cross.
K Raju, the sub-divisional officer here, revealed that the deputy commissioner of the district had given strict instructions to the engineer of the contracting company to complete work on the flyover at the earliest and open it for traffic. He said that the work was stalled on account of lockdown, and the work has resumed now. He said he expects the flyover to open for traffic in about three to four months’ time as there are many pending works.
