Mangaluru, Jun 21: In an incident that occurred on the morning of Sunday, June 21 at Kankanady in the city, a vehicle that was transporting meat from Kudroli slaughterhouse was waylaid by miscreants and the driver of the vehicle was allegedly assaulted.
Rashid, a resident of Kudroli, was transporting 200 kg of beef in his tempo, with required legal permit, to the shop of Zakir, who owns a beef stall in the Kankanady market here. It is learnt that a gang of five to six people followed the tempo by car and two-wheelers and waylaid the vehicle in the middle of the road between Highland hospital and Kankanady market.
The gang allegedly assaulted driver Rashid and damaged his vehicle. In addition, they also poured Kerosene over the meat and made it not fit for human consumption. As the atackers saw locals gathering, they escaped from the spot, as per a complaint filed in Kadri police station.
Ali Hassan, president of meat traders' association and Kankanady market association has condemned the act of the miscreants and demanded action against the culprits.
