Udupi, Jun 19: Scouts and guides in the state have set for themselves an ambitious target of stitching one lac masks for the use of SSLC students during their examinations. An amputee girl from Udupi has emerged as a rare achiever by stitching 15 masks with her single hand.
Sindhuri (10), a sixth standard student of Mount Rosary English Medium School at Santhekatte Kallianpur here, is devoid of her left hand below her elbow since birth. Sindhuri, a Cub Bulbul student of Scouts and Guides, was asked to make ten masks. Initially, she was hesitant, as she felt that with one hand, she might not be able to stitch masks. With her mother's encouragement, she overcame this initial hesitation.
State chief commissioner for Scouts and Guides, P G R Sindhia, has appreciated the girl's achievement.
Sindhuri is a sixth standard student. Her mother Sargam works as an attender in the same school. Her father was working as a car driver in the past. However, after a crippling accident, he now works to fix stickers to vehicles near the regional transport office here.
Sindhuri says that stitching of a masks has now become easy and she can now make a mask in five minutes flat. She says she has the satisfaction of getting involved in a small way with the fight against coronavirus. She wants to make masks and give them to neighbours and in future she wants to become a teacher. Her hobby of choice is painting.
