Supreme Court quashes appeal, SSLC exams to be held as planned

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 18: On Wednesday June 17, the Supreme Court (SC) quashed the appeal filed seeking cancellation of the proposed SSLC examination in the state which is proposed to be held from June 25 onward. With this, a big hurdle that was threatening to derail the process stands cleared. Now, the government is free to conduct the examination as planned in a smooth and orderly manner.

Rajashree and some others had preferred a special appeal in the SC against the high court order dated May 27 paving way for the conduct of the examination. The appeal was referred to the three-judge bench of Justice L Nageshwar Rao, Justice Krishna Murari, and Justice S Raveendra Bhat on Wednesday.

After hearing the arguments of the petitioners and representation of the government, the SC upheld the order of the high court, duly dismissing the appeal.

Advocate general Prabhulinga Nagavadagi, appearing for Karnataka state through video conference, justified the state government's decision to hold the examination by following all precautions. He also argued that this is in the best interests of the students.

The court after hearing the pleas, permitted to hold SSLC examination, duly following all the safety measures. The standard operating procedure framed by the secondary education examination board was also found to be in order by the bench.

Just crazy. If the Honourable supreme court is allowing the conduct of exams, then it should also take responsibility for the health and welfare of the examiners, students and staff. Is it willing to do so?

Many states have cancelled the exams, but why not in Karnataka where the infection numbers are rising by the day. The courts and the government will be solely responsible if anything un towards happens.

Will the state government or the Supreme court take the responsibiliry if students are infected by the virus. Schools are pressuresing the government to start schools.
Parents should take a wise decision whether child is important or not. Parents should consult their family doctors the pros and cons of the virus and act wisely. If you are in trouble there is no one to help you.

Its pretty insane how we think faring in exams will bring success. The very meaning of exams has been sensationalised to an extent where one's health is overlooked by exams . For us faring well in exams means success. When so many schools around the world cancelled or scrapped off exams ,we still take exams as a prerequisite to success. Atleast now when the cases peak there must be some relaxations . To end this invisible enemy we must ban all sorts of gathering that might be a potential covid-19 hotspot.
