Lockdown day 75: Corona cases in DK rise to 192, Udupi tally crosses 900-mark

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 7: On the 75th day of the lockdown, 17 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada, while the number of cases in Udupi district crossed the 900-mark with 13 new cases on Sunday June 7.

In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 42,887 people have been screened so far, including 20 on Sunday.

A total of 9,539 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which 9,326 have tested negative, and 192 positive, including 10 persons from other districts. Out of these, 89 are currently active. As many as 96 persons have recovered and been discharged, and seven deaths have occured so far.

Five patients were discharged from Wenlock on Sunday. These include a girl aged 13, and four males aged 25, 54, 20 and 49.

As many as 151 samples were sent for testing on Sunday. Reports of 130 samples were received on Sunday, out of which 17 tested positive and the rest negative. Reports of 21 samples are awaited.

Of the 17 who tested positive on Sunday, 15 persons arrived from Mumbai to Udupi, where they were placed under quarantine. After the qurantine period ended, they arrived in Moodbidri. A swab test was conducted, and it confirmed that they had contracted the virus. All of them have been admitted to Wenlock. The 11 include two youngsters aged 14 and 17, and a woman aged 32.

Another patient, a 52-year-old man, also arrived in Udupi from Mumbai, and after completing the quarantine period, came to Mangaluru. He then tested positive for coronavirus, and has been admitted to Wenlock. A person who returned from Goa also arrived in Udupi, and then to Mangaluru after completing quarantine. Four others who returned from Mumbai to Udupi also underwent quarantine and came to Beltangady, after which they tested positive for coronavirus. All of them have been admitted to Wenlock.

As many as 11 persons were admitted on Sunday for observation.

A total of 5,058 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Sunday, 25 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.


Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,344 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 38 on Sunday, and a total of 4,841 have completed 14 days of quarantine, including 12 on Sunday. As many as 244 persons are currently in home quarantine.

A total of 80 people are in isolation wards, including 10 fresh admissions on Sunday. Among them, two are coronavirus suspects, while 7 have SARI and one influenza-like illness.

As many as 709 people, including four on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.

A total of 12,538 samples have been collected so far, including 10 on Sunday, out of which five are COVID suspects. Out of them, 11,373 samples have turned out to be negative, including 155 on Sunday, and 264 reports are awaited. As many as 901 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 13 on Sunday. As many as 274 patients have been discharged, and 626 cases are active. One death has occured so far.

Out of the 13 cases reported on Sunday, 12 are Maharashtra returnees, and contact of a female patient is being traced.
