Dharwad, Jun 5: The railway station at Hubballi, known as the commercial capital of Karnataka, will soon be able to boast of having the longest railway platform in the world.
The first platform in the railway station here is 550 metres long. Its length is being increased to 1,400 metres. Its width will be 10 metres. The current inspection carriage route will be converted into a full-scale platform. Works on these aspects have already begun and they are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The doubling of Hubballi-Bengaluru railway line is in progress and apart from completing this work, the total number of platforms in Hubballi will be increased to eight from the current five. A new entrance will be initiated to the station at Gadag Road. A total amount of Rs 90 crore is being spent on these projects and once completed, the commercial capital will be adding another feather to its illustrious cap.
