Mangaluru, Jun 3: The monsoon which entered Kerala on Monday will enter Karnataka on Wednesday June 3. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall and strong wind in Karnataka coast. It also has predicted the sea to become turbulent.
The state receives an average of 3,019 mm rainfall between June and September every year, but the rainfall was more than normal during the last two years. The meteorological department has said that the quantum of rainfall during this monsoon season would be normal.
During the last year, the monsoon had entered Karnataka coast on June 14. Dakshina Kannada had received five percent extra rainfall while Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts had got 21 percent and 33 percent excess rainfall respectively during the previous season. The coast has been receiving rains since the last some days due to Amphan and Nisarga cyclones. Coastal districts have received good rainfall since the last two days.
The department has issued orange alert for coastal Karnataka on June 3. It has predicted about the possibility of rainfall between 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm. It expects thunder to be quite strong.
Likewise, Kasargod, Kannur and Kozhikode districts in Kerala also have been issued with orange alerts.
