Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji (SS)

Panaji, May 9: After a hiatus of six weeks, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) restarted pay-parking. Currently, it is operational only for 12 hours.

The contractor, Sohan Juwarker said that they started after they obtained permission from the CCP, but due to the lockdown, they can only operate for 12 hours. The number of cars have been low since all private establishments are operating with 30-50% staff and everything closes down by 6.30 pm. Thus, he is receiving only 50% of collections as compared to the pre-lockdown time.

Pay-parking has been restarted in most stretches for both two and four-wheelers.

He added that fortunately, all their staff are in town. They faced a loss due to the lockdown and are talking to the corporation. They are providing their staff with accomodation, food and salaries.

Pay-parking began in the state capital in February and came to a halt on March 22. The pay parking contract of Rs 1.6 crore between Juwarker Associates and CCP is valid for three years.

Pay parking was operational 24x7 before the lockdown, including Sundays and public holidays. After a parking fee is paid, it is considered valid for any other parking location within CCP's jurisdiction for that particular duration.
