Udupi: Jasmine growers should also be paid COVID package – BJP president Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, May 7: "The chief minister announced on Wednesday of his historic decision of paying Rs 1,610 crore aid to workers in the unorganized sector and flower growers who are in distress due to coronavirus lockdown.

"While we welcome the decision, we urge the chief minister to extend the package to jasmine growers in the coastal and Malnad region. They grow jasmine traditionally with great pain considering that it is their livelihood," stated the district BJP president Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak.

"This year owing to lack of celebrations or gatherings and not obtaining a suitable price or finding a market for jasmines, they are devastated. Therefore, Jasmine growers should also be included in the Covid compensation package," urged Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak.

He stated in a press release that he has already spoken to the chief minister in this connection.
