Mangaluru, Dec 24: A 14-year-old tigress named 'Rani' at Pilikula Biological Park has given birth to two healthy cubs on the night of December 20. Both the mother and her newborns are reported to be in good health.
This is not Rani’s first experience with motherhood. In 2016, she gave birth to a record five healthy cubs, followed by three cubs in 2021. With these additions, the tiger population at Pilikula Zoo now stands at 10, comprising 4 male and 4 female tigers, while the genders of the newborn cubs will be determined after two months, according to Pilikula Biological Park director H Jayaprakash Bhandary.
Rani was brought to Pilikula as part of an animal exchange program from Bannerghatta, in return for a male tiger.
