Mangaluru, May 2: 55-year-old Anna Mascarenhas, editorial coordinator of Daijiworld Magazine, has lost her three-year-old battle with cancer. She passed away on Saturday May 2 in Mangaluru.
Anna, wife of Stephen Mascarenhas (Hemacharya), editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Magazine, was first diagnosed with cancer in January 2017. Though she recovered well within six months, the tragic loss of her son Ian Mascarenhas (28) in a road accident on December 23, 2017 left the family devastated. She could not bear her son's demise, and the cancer returned during early 2018. Anna fought the disease with a brave face, always staying positive despite her deteriorating condition.

Anna has shown utmost humanity in her death by donating her body to Father Muller Hospital. In a will, she expressed her wish to donate her body for medical research and thereby for the betterment of medical field.
Besides being the editorial coordinator of Daijiworld Magazine, Anna has contributed immensely to Daijiworld group through her writings, recipes columns and more. She lived in Oman and the UAE for several years along with husband Stephen, son Ian and daughter Ina before settling down in Mangaluru.
She leaves behind her husband, daughter, mother, and brothers, as well as scores of well-wishers.
Due to restriction owing to coronavirus lockdown, her funeral ceremony was held strictly as per the guidelines issued by the administration. As per lockdown procedures, her mortal remains were blessed in a simple prayer ceremony at Ave Maria paliative care led by Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza, parish priest of Bondel church, before being handed over to the medical institution for research as per her will and desire. Close relatives and friends were present. A Thanksgiving Mass will be offered after the lockdown is lifted.

"We are going to miss her terribly. She fought cancer valiantly, and despite her illness she was always cheerful. She was an inspirational to other cancer patients even during the most agonising days of her illness. At this sad moment, our condolence to Hemacharya and family. May her soul rest in peace. She will live even in her death because of her positive thinking and charitable gesture," said Walter Nandalike.
