Udupi, Apr 30: One tonne of rice donated by Kaup north zone block Congress committee and Rs 60 thousand worth grocery collected with the cooperation of Udyavar rural congress committee was distributed through gram panchayat members and ward president to the most needy 200 families here at first phase. Udyavar Congress has planned to distribute grocery kits to another 200 families in the future.
Former MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake speaking in a simple programme held at Udyavar rural congress office said that Kaup block is bound by the decision of the district administration. “We are providing rice and grocery and helping migrant workers, needy, poor and those in rented houses. We are also distributing milk, vegetable and rice in various gram panchayat limits wherever there is rural and congress administration without discrimination of caste, religion and political party. Twelve thousand kits are distributed in Kaup Vidhan Sabha constituency already and more help will be provided in the future,” he said.
“We have already requested Palimar math, Adamar math and Puthige math swamiji for help and we intend to distribute more kits in the future. We have planned to distribute 50 tonnes rice in Kaup Vidhan Sabha constituency. 37 tonnes rice is already distributed. District, block and rural congress are working in coordination and helping those who are in difficulties. Udyavar rural congress has been a model for all and distributed nine grocery items together with rice,” he said.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake handed over kits to 13 booth presidents of Udyavar village and gram panchayat members for distribution to eligible needy in their booths.
A minutes silence was observed for the soul of former MLA and MLC Winnifred who passed away yesterday.
Kaup block Congress north zone president Praveen Shetty, gram panchayat president Sugandhi Shekar, vice president Riaz Palli, rural Congress committee president Girish Kumar and Lawrence D’ Sa were present.
Udyavar rural Congress former president Udyavar Nagesh Kumar gave an introduction and welcomed. Block Congress chief secretary Abid Ali compered the programme and rendered vote of thanks.
