Kadaba, Apr 30: A notorious thief who has been accused of over 16 theft cases including the ones at a bank branch and panchayat office at Ramakunja, was arrested by Kadaba police on Wednesday, April 29.
The arrested accused happens to be Ummer Farooq (27) son of Ibrahim, resident of Peruvamane, Sajipanadu in Bantwal taluk. A team led by Kadaba police sub-inspector Rukma Naik found Farooq hiding in a bus shelter. A rod and certain equipment which were reportedly used for the theft were confiscated from his possession.
Ummer Farooq faces four cases in Kadaba station, two in Uppinangady, three in Bantwal, two in Bantwal rural station, and five theft cases in Konaje station. Partner in several of his crimes, Fayan has already been arrested by the Konaje police.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police B M Laxmi Prasad, additional superintendent of police Vikram Amte, deputy superintendent of police Dinakar Shetty and Puttur rural circle inspector Nagesh Kadri, crime assistant sub-inspector, Chidananda Rai and others.
