Mangaluru, Apr 30: National Highways Authority of India has started to fill the cracks that have appeared on the Pumpwell flyover in the city.
As traffic on the roads has been considerably less now on account of lockdown in force, the authority has been sealing the openings by pouring tar to fill the gaps.
Cracks had appeared on the protective wall of the flyover at Pumpwell a few days back. Later, cracks were seen also on the two roads in the middle of the flyover. After the rainfall on last Saturday, crushed stones and mud which were provided on the two sides of the flyover had slipped and got deposited on the service road.

The video and pictures of the cracks on Pumpwell flyover, which had earned the dubious distinction of being one of the projects that took the longest to complete, had become viral. The people who termed this as mark of substandard execution, had heaped criticism on the concerned.
Pumpwell flyover was approved in 2004, tenders were floated in 2010 and work had begun in 2012. After immense pressure was brought to complete the project, it was completed in a hurry at the last minute during the last year.
