Mangaluru: DC bans sale, consumption of chewing tobacco in district

Mangaluru, Apr 29: While Covid-19 pandemic is spreading rapidly in the world, consumption of Pan Masala, Jarda, Khaini and other chewing tobacco products and spitting in public places may cause problems to people besides spreading infectious deceases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia and Covid-19 virus from one person to the other.

Harmful viruses from hands can enter human bodies while smoking beedi and cigarette and spread to the parts of the body causing sicknesses relating to lungs and heart.

Therefore, a press release by the deputy commissioner (DC) and the district tobacco control coordination committee states that in view of public welfare and Covid-19, sales and consumption of Pan Masala, Jarda, Khaini and other chewing tobacco products in the district are banned until further orders. Violations will attract registration of cases and legal action under Infectious Diseases Act 1897, Disaster Management Act 2005, IPC 188, 268, 269 and 270.

    As like in the time of lockdown one must wear mask/cover face with hanker chief and cannot spit on the road. Let us also ensure citizens do not spit on the road as and when/wherever they like, Which is cause of many sickness and creates unnecessary dauting task for cleaners.

    If lock down has taught us to be responsible by maintaining social distance/ covering face. We can even do this little thing. Authorities please implement this straight away by putting ads on main stands etc.

    Let us stop this another nuisance.

    I would go one step ahead and include jay walking too, but our roads and pedestrain walks /crossing are unplanned

    I see a lot of guys spitting while riding or driving. These guys must be heavily fined. This could be one way Corona virus could be spreading. I really hope people follow some sense of hygiene and stop spitting in public places. Kudla needs to change. People who spit in public must be heavily fined!

Sir, thanks to the government...... when I think of that incident ...........ouuuuuchhhh!! 😩😩😷😷😷 Marriages are not happening now ....these are the truck drivers and some bus passengers (definitely not from dk and udupi).... Govt. bans but these addicted people keep stock sufficient for some months. Whatever there in the shop they will sell somehow....

Here, only one condition applies, henceforth you should forget gurrr gurus guru mantra tak... Takkk. and start using your own mantra "Kini.... Kini... Kinni". Now the question remaining here about salary... I too don't expect salary.. Reason behind is simple... 40/60 couple will have less hearing capacity.. When I say my fees, they will say thank you so much, god bless you.. Their blessings are more important than fees. We cant do anything... It's the problem of ageing... KM?

    Very good decision but came very late. The non availability of chewing tobacco product in Kerala was one of the reason for controlling the pandemic. Bit if this is available in places except Manglore, then the result will not be as expected.

    Betal and araca nuts are beneficial to health whereas the thing called pogala which gives kick is harmful. Govt should ban all these dirty pans but not the healthy ones we get in weddings etc as they don't harm us but are healthy.

    Betal nut is carcinogenic. There is nothing called as 'Healthy areca nut'. The risks far outweigh the benefits. Time to ban them!

    Very good move. Now we will have clean streets and street corners. Staircase will be clean and building pillars will be clean. Bus stop, auto rickshaw stands will be free from the stains. Is it only during the lockdown or permanent ban, permanent ban will be very good and welcome,

    All bad habits are going to ban only during lock down. Now a days not seeing romeo's on road.. Where they underground. Anything possible if wish to stop permanently. These time none other than God itself a lead. In the name of development we misuse much mother earth. Let all sit at home...and animals birds on road. Just think how might be Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison room for sake of his nation. All cruels. Now themselves holed up in palace without any activity.
