Karkala, Apr 27: The police have said that the machines and equipment stolen from a crusher unit functioning at Sooda village in the taluk were transported to Goa through scrap merchants functioning at Bunder Mangaluru.
It is learnt that the value of the stolen machinery which were sold without authorization is said to be around Rs 40 lac, the accused could collect only Rs 1.8 lac as advance payment. Ritesh Shetty, physical education teacher at the government high school at Sooda, and Charan Nayak from Sooda have been accused of stealing the machinery and selling them.
Ritesh Shetty, who in the past was the president of Karnataka State Physical Education Teachers Association, has also been functioning since the last about a decade as the acting head master of the said school. It is said that he also been operating a number of businesses.
Because of coronavirus impact, courts are now remanding accused to judicial custody only if the charges levelled against them attract imprisonment of over seven years. Because of this provision, Ritesh got bail on April 23 and Charan on April 24.
