Bengaluru, Apr 27: The Congress has given responsibility of providing information on coronavirus to the public to a dentist. This measure has encountered resistance from within the party.
Like many others, the Congress has made its own arrangements to regulate coronavirus in the state. To assess how far the decisions of the state and central governments are helpful to the people, a task force led by former assembly speaker, Ramesh Kumar, has been formed by the party.

A special unit has been set up to enable people to get information if necessary, about health services. This task force advisory unit is headed by Dr Raghavendra, a dentist, who also heads KPCC medical unit. The party has many doctors holding MD, MS, MBBS and other degrees. These doctors say that Dr Raghavendra will not be able to handle issues concerning throat pain, respiratory problems, lung-related complications, chest pain etc. It is learnt that they are considering to approach state Congress president D K Shivakumar, with a complaint.
It is said that these doctors have been claiming that dentists do not have knowledge about other body parts and problems associated with them. As such, if people seek advice from dentists, there is likelihood of wrong information getting conveyed, the doctors argued before Shivakumar, sources said. They have pointed out that the party has several MLAs who are doctors like Dr Yatindra Sidddaramaiah, Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, Dr Ajai Singh and Dr Ranaganath. Their services can benefit the people, particularly of Dr Yatindra, who has earned his master’s degree in pathology for his research on symptoms similar to coronavirus infection, they say.
