Karkala, Apr 27: Members of a family from Bola near Belman here have stood out because of making full use of the lockdown holidays and digging a well, instead of sitting idly like most of the other people. Without seeking anyone else's assistance, the family dug a well that is approximately 25 feet deep, and obtained water.
Seven family members of Akshatha Poojary, an internationally acclaimed power lifter, who is a resident of Bola in the taluk, thought of digging a well near their house to address boredom. They dug the well within five days, and got water from it. Ashok and Arun, who are brothers of Akshatha, along with the children of her sister, began to dig well and succeeded in their aim.
The family has been making use of an old well but during summer every year the family was grappling with shortage of water. Therefore, the family planned to have a new well dug. Akshatha Poojary confirmed that the well was dug with the coming together of her family members. "Because of lockdown, we did not get workers to dig such a big well. Therefore, we dug the well ourselves with the support of Sushanth, Sujith and Samith, my sister’s children," she explained.
The family of Bola Akshatha Poojary has stood out as a role model in the midst of the people who while away their entire time in front of televisions and mobile phones. They have made the best use of the lockdown holidays. The family members had no prior experience in this work. They undertook the initiative just like curious children do, and succeeded in their aim.
