Bengaluru, Apr 24 (IANS): Thunder showers lashed Bengaluru city late on Thursday and early Friday, helping to cool the city off a bit, a Met official said. Across the state, heavy rainfall warning has been given for Bangalore Urban, rural, ghat areas such as Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, north Shimoga and Ramnagara.
"Bengaluru city witnessed 23.2 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours," told a Met official to IANS.
The Kempegowda International Airport recorded 9 mm rainfall, HAL Airport 25.6 mm and the Met department's observatory at the GKVK campus in Hebbal recorded 40.8 mm rainfall.
"In the next two days also we are expecting the sky to be partly cloudy with one or two spells of rain and thunder showers in Bangalore city," the official said.
"Heavy rains have damaged roads and buildings in Lakshmidevi Nagar Slum board quarters in Laggere Ward 69," tweeted Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner B. H. Anil Kumar.A
Kumar said residents from 16 houses have been shifted to community centre even as the civic body is assessing the damage. The rainfall wreaked havoc with Laggere road, leaving large fissures and splits and badly displaced cars and vehicles.
