Mangaluru: Coronavirus claims DK's second victim after 75-year-old woman passes away

Mangaluru, Apr 23: In a tragic news, Dakshina Kannada on Thursday, April 23, recorded its second death due to novel coronavirus. The woman had tested positive in the morning on Thursday. 

The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old woman from Bantwal. She is the mother-in-law of the deceased coronavirus patient from Bantwal.

Earlier, the result of her swab test came positive after which she was shifted to ICU in Wenlock COVID hospital from the private hospital where she was earlier being treated after she suffered a stroke.

As she tested positive for coronavirus, the district health officials will oversee the final rites according to medical protocol. 

Dakshina Kannada on April 19 had recorded its first death due to novel coronavirus. The throat swabs of the woman's husband and two children were sent which tested negative.

    Dear S Dspuza, "secondly she could have been suffering from pneumonia just like a daughter in law, but could have been asymptomatic. Have you ever seen a patient with COPD crash? "

    WRT the above post of yours, the patient was supposedly in this super speciality hospital for 35 days; and can anybody think that the docs treating her were so ignorant that they could not catch a single symptom of walking pneumonia till the end?

    BTW, I think for any procedure for brain stroke (or in general), a chest Xray is always routinely done; even if she was asymptomatic, the Xray REPORT would have given enough indication of walking pneumonia to an experienced doc, is it not??

    But for the board - WENLOCK DISTRICT HOSPITAL, MANGALORE - that building looks as if it is from a poor African country. Perhaps requires maintenance; or at least a coat of paint.

    Same thing came to my mind when I saw the hospital photo. This building is nothing less than a monument, since it is located in center of city and always is center of attraction!
    The hospital is historical and might also be well equipped, therefore it deserves some cosmetic uplifting and beautification!

    Yes the wenlock hospital looks poor in looks and spirit, and possibly poor in quality of service, it is time to wake up we Mangaloreans to Join and raise funds and run better, ,with the Government, may be corporates etc.

    I remember I donated the blood during NCC days and Nurse was not quite in her presence of mind to stop the blood flowing, and we realized much later when others saw the blood on the floor. the beds , the facilities and quality of equipment , the staff, which showcases in away the incapability - certainly . where most of our best doctors are abroad!
    also remember the stories from many that they had to pay the doctors at their residences, to be able to list their names especially for surgeries.

    The hospital is long forgotten when comes to people can afford to go to Private hospital , but during corona it is lifeline for all !!!!!.
    and those who cannot afford it remained life line always !!!!!.

    Interesting case. Daughter in law died on 19 April who didn't have travel history. Mother inlaw who was admitted in march for other condition died today of corona.

    This is very baffling incident indeed; a patient admitted for brain stroke, recovering under treatment, without any symptoms of CORONA, gets tested because her close relative supposedly died of CORONA, is shifted to a CORONA dedicated facility & dies soon thereafter; unimaginable! Anyways, may her soul RIP!!

    Comorbidities lead to increased Corona deaths. It is not mentioned what other illness did the mother in law have, its improper to point fingers or make hard statements without knowing the reality.

    Her test result came today. They took her forcibly without asking anyone.
    Why did they shift her without getting the test result?

    She was admitted to a private hospital because of respiratory problem that is a symptom of corona virus and she was a relative of previous case and is from bantwal which is a containment zone. No hospital is allowed to keep corona suspected patients all are supposed to be transferred to wenlock as wenlock is a corona hospital if private hospitals would admit her their license would be cut. They bought her straight to wenlocks ICU because of her respiratory problem she could not battle the virus. Understand rip

    She was admitted to private hospital on March 18 ( 35 days ago ) due to Brain Hemorrhage and NOT respiratory problem.
    She was totally fine till yesterday morning undergoing physiotherapy ( there are hospital reports ) and suddenly then decided to shift her to Wenlock saying respiratory problem.
    It's like you're totally fine when you sleep and next day you wake up and you're suffering Pnemonia critical stage ??!!

    Do keep in mind that this patient was 75 years, old. Do you have the knowledge about if or not she had other illnesses? People who have had stroke, generally have Hypertension or Diabetes or both. Secondly she could have been suffering from pneumonia just like a daughter in law, but could have been asymptomatic. Have you ever seen a patient with COPD crash? I bet you haven't, hence such a statement. From your side. It can be matter of hours before the patient crashes the minute the lungs start getting filled up with fluids. Also, will you keep a patient suspected of suffering from covid 19in a private hospital suffering from other illnesses? Would you like it if your relative or a family member is lying in a hospital and you get to know a covid patient is being treated there? Don't forget that AC vents become shared in such cases. For the safety of all the patients in the private hospital she had to he moved.

    exactly.. she got shifted when she was getting treated and next day she expired. ridicolous. They could have made some arrangement to have her continue her treatment in the private hospital where she was already admitted.

    It is airborne. Do you suggest they should have risked the lives of existing patients at the private hospital? Immune compromised patients are more succesptible than regular Joe. The reason why designated covid hospital is made us because of the complexities associated with this disease. Stop trying to play doctor doctor, Let the medics handle what they are trained to do keeping in mind the safety of every person in the general population.
