Lockdown accounts for life of newly-married Mangalurean woman in Mumbai

Mangaluru, Apr 21: Shobha S Shinde (28) from Katipalla near Suratkal, who suffered from acute appendicitis breathed her last after writhing for long due to pain on Monday April 20 at her residence at Panvel near Mumbai. She did not get medical facilities in time due to problems created by lockdown, it is learnt.

Shobha had married Sathish Shindhe recently. Since the last three days, Shobha was suffering due to unbearable abdominal pain. Because of lockdown, her husband could not admit her into hospital, it is said.

Sensing that the situation was going out of control, Shobha's family members from Mangaluru contacted Kannadiga Journalists Association Maharashtra president Rons Bantwal, through a journalist here. Rons in turn contacted young entrepreneur and city corporator Santhosh Shetty. Santhosh took steps to arrange for ambulance but before any treatment could be given, Shobha died after struggling with unbearable pain.

After the family gave its nod, funeral was conducted at Panvel.

    It is not the lockdown, but the negligence on the part of the husband. Some ulterior motives.
    Even during lockdown, there are few hours everyday when the emergencies can be taken care of.

    Its very sad... Quite young lady Shobha lost her life.. May her Soul rest in peace. Condolences to her Husband & parents.. In any Emergency, Pls dial 108 for Govt. Ambulance. It reaches your place by taking all details. Govt. Ambulances are functional, (only private ambulances are off on the road).

    Unfortunately these kind of emergencies kill more people in other incidents due to non availability of ambulance, hospitals as well as people taking law in to their own hands than the actual VIRUS. This is the main reason why we as a citizens must take this challenge of Lock down seriously and stay at home cut the chain of infection. if 99.9% of the population takes care and 0.01% are careless and if 1 person is having the infection when the lock down opens the CORONA will be back full bloom in 1 month.
    India do not have enough Hospitals to take care of our normal patients. Its not just Corona which will kill, if the the Hospitals don't work, if regular doctors don't start working full time - along with Corona - Cancer, Diabetics, kidney , heart patients will start dying . even Victor diseases like Malaria and Dengue will kill due to lack of medical attention. The problem will go out of hand. No god can help us if we act stupid. The people who are dying can be our own parents, our siblings , our close friends our children and finally it can be us itself.
    Countries like Europe and USA even though had more patients than they expected they have will bring to control because their population is in their advantage. If India crosses more than 100,000 like USA - India cannot handle. Our poor people will die for no mistake of theirs. They don't have space in their homes and locality to keep social distance. Their homes are made of Asbestos will be too hot during to summer to stay inside.

    The world Philanthropist donate millions and billions, people like Mother Theresa sacrificed their life for people in need. We maintaining the social distance and cutting the chain of infection can be the best contribution we can give to the humanity. We have chance to be part of this nobel service and our small sacrifice can make a huge difference.

    Shashi Shetty Santhoor,it is really sad this lady didnt get the needed care.Because in India it is not so well organized as in European or USA etc.People too dont have knowledge or facility to get medical help.Lady suffered at home for long.Here even though popualtion is lesser than India ,but they take it serious and do care.Heartfelt sympathy to her parents and rest of family.May her soul rest in peace.

    There is something that wants you to read this article more than once ...
    1.Is Panvel that backward a place ?
    2.Did they have no neighbours ?
    3. Did the family take it lightly ?
    4.Is medical help that difficult to get in Panel even in an emergency ?
    5.Did they live in a remote area ??
    It's very hard to believe this without more clarity.
    Looks like could have been easily avoided and a life saved ...

    Yes, Pinto Sir... Exactly.. Ambulances are there everywhere especially at this time, they are doing a wonderful job.. How their city corporator reached there on hearing from her family members... That time also area will be the same... Husband didn't put the efforts...

    Bhandar saab, panvel is not backward area at all especially where our mangalureans dwell.....Many have hotel business there.. Now, since lock down husband was at home... lets consider, they may be staying in a remote area for ex... how the city corporator Mr. Shetty sent the ambulance there? Area is same... Corporator also same. Same efforts why husband didn't put??

    If city corporator could respond to the call by the family members of Shobha from Mangaluru... Why not of her husband"s ? What type of man he is... Seeing wife"s sufferings since three days... It's, terrible pain unable to control. I too experienced it... My goodness... Last week my sister got sick in Mumbai and when family members called for ambulance... two ambulances reached immediately within the gap of few minutes... One is normal another one with doctor and necessary equipments ..even police were helpful they said to me... Within three days she got discharged yesterday and by the grace of god she is fine. Why I mentioned this here is simply should not blame for emergency services and police personnel... Who are ready at all the time.... Rest in peace dear Shobha... Condolences to her family members....

    Cynthia, Kirem, Your comments make no sense to some extent. You are blaming that deceased wife' husband for this tragedy. This incident happened during the lockdown period and everybody knows what people were going through. Also we don't know in which part of Maharashtra they were living. In some parts there were no ambulances or even vehicles to take dead bodies for the final rites. I read your comments most of the time and it is very interesting and to the point.

    Evans, USA.....my comment doesn't make any sense.... That's fine... But read the article, when ladies family members tried their best and succeeded in bringing to the notice of the city corporator... who, in turn brought the ambulance to her place... ... But it was too late... Appendix must have bursted and before treatment she got expired. As I know, panel many of our mangalureans stay. My question here is, if her family members were succeeded in sending the ambulance through their city corporator, and to the same area, why couldn't be done by her husband through the same city corporator ? and or through neighbors? However interior may be according to you, ambulance reached there isn't it? Three days she waited... On the very first day itself, if her husband informed police of that area or corporation definitely Shobha would have been survived.... than pain just can't control... Normal pain can control... He may get another wife what about her parents??

    There r many private ambulances too.... And they could have taken anybody's help if they really wanted. . she died due to appendicitis not heart attack or respiratory related... This is pure sign of negligence. Even if it is ruptured appendix and if emergency surgery is performed life would have been saved... She could have been transported in a police jeep if the family requested as she did not require oxygen or basic life support.. blaming the lockdown is not correct... I have heard of people getting admitted 3 days prior to surgery in mumbai....

    This case should be investigated...

    Greeshu sir ...just imagine, in her place If her husband would have gone through such terridying pain, would his wife leave him in that situation for three days....allowing him to suffer?? Second thing, they got married recently... No parents will give their daughter to a house that situated in remote area. In this modern world, family members as well as the bride definitely see the surroundings, market place, transport facilities, school, temple etc etc.. before their loved one is given into marriage... According to few commentators, speaking about remote area, remote area, remote area... what her husband is doing in that area for his survival...? Even if it is remote area, local corporator reached there with an ambulance.... Just look at the tragedy... Sad dear 😢😢

    RIP..... very unfortunate..
    I dont think lockdown stops emergency medical care..
    Why was it not possible for them to go to the hospital...mumbai has so money hospitals.and no one is going to stop an ambulance with an emergency case...
    Not sure if lockdown means total closure.

    This is not the case in mangalore... people are allowed to visit hospitals when ever needed.

    One more casualty due to lockdown which was totally preventable.The total mortality due to lockdown by now crossed the tally due to Corona itself. Also many false positive and false 4 results might not have been accounted for.Today the government itself has said that 80% of corona positive patients had no symptoms or minimal symptoms.Now if this is so why the fear, panic and why the lockdown for a self limiting viral infection.Those who died may have died WITH Corona may be not DUE TO corona.(read coexisting morbidities),also what about the financial and economic disaster.
