Kaup, Apr 20: Kaup police sub-inspector Rajashekhar B Saganur, was on duty at the Hejamady check post on Sunday April 19 morning when he got information that cows were being slaughtered in a building owned by Rajab located near Panashini river on Mosque Road at Manipura (west) in Manipura village. On the basis of the information, the spot was raided and the police found that cows were being slaughtered and beef was being prepared for sale there.
Ashraf (31), son of Rajab, resident of Mosque Road Manipura (west) in Maniplura village and Sinnan (19), son of Mohiuddin, living on Mosque Road, Manipura (west), were arrested. Four persons who escaped during the raid have been identified as Ashraf Manipura, Rashid Manipura, Rajab Manipura and Mohiuddin Manipura.
The police who investigated, found that the accused were bringing cows and calves from other places by stealing them, and slaughtering them for making beef without being in possession of requisite permission to do so. The beef so prepared was being transported in a car and sold elsewhere, they found.
The police took into possession various things on the spot, totally valued at Rs 52,250. A case stands registered in this connection in Kaup police station under different provisions of Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, section 11(1) of Karnataka Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and section 379 of Indian Penal Code.
