Udupi, Apr 15: Eight persons belonging to a single family from here, which had travelled to Hubballi from Mumbai a few weeks back has been asked to undergo home quarantine as there is a possibility of them having been infected with coronavirus.
The head of the family is employed in a bank. He had travelled on March 19 by a private bus to Hubballi from Mumbai. On April 9, a coronavirus positive case emerged in Dharwad district. The infected person had travelled from Mumbai to Hubballi by a bus run by an agency on March 19. The said family had come in contact with a co-passenger in the bus. The health department has treated this passenger as the primary contact and the family from here as the secondary contact.
The deputy commissioner of Dharwad district has now written to the deputy commissioner here, seeking medical examination of the said family of eight as the infected person had travelled by the same bus.
All the family members have now been quarantined. Throat swab sample of the family members have been sent to the laboratory at Mangaluru and report is expected in a couple of days, said district health officer.
The infection had been confirmed for the person who had travelled by private bus on March 19, on April 9. Further decision will be taken once the test reports are received, sources stated.
