Bengaluru: State government’s mass wedding programme postponed

Bengaluru, Apr 7: The department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment has postponed the first phase of simple mass weddings to be held on April 26 this year.

The beneficiaries of weddings had received more than 4,500 applications from more than 100 A grade temples and other temples selected by the department calling for documents. More than 2,000 applications among them had been received by the department with necessary documents. Discussion forums meetings relating to it were held in more than ten districts. Publicity about the programme was held in chariots throughout the state.

However Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister of Muzrai, Fisheries, Ports and Inland Transport and district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada district, in a news release stated that the programme scheduled on April 26 is postponed due to coronavirus to combine with the second phase of mass weddings to be held on May 24. “The situation will be reviewed and the postponed date will be announced,” he stated.
