Doha: Karnataka Sangha Celebrates Rajyotsava with Cultural Events

Doha, Dec 1: Karnataka Sangha Doha-Qatar (KSQ), celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on Sunday November 29 at 5.00 pm at the Ashoka Hall of the new ICC premises here.
The programme began with a welcome note by the vice-president of the Sangha, V S Mannangi. The event was officially inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Sangha president, Arun Kumar, Sangha vice-president, Mannangi, general Secretary, Arun ABB, ladies co-coordinator, Roopa Pramod, Sangha ladies advisor, Milan Arun and children’s advisor, Sudha Prabhakar. This was followed by a welcome song by Savitha Arun. Shubha Murulidhara was the host of the evening.
A dance drama, ‘Punya Kooti’, was staged by the KSQ’s child artistes, Aishwarya, Alron, Alyssa, Greeshma, Pranav B, Pranav L, Rashmi, Sanjay, Saurav, Smruthi, Tanushree and Yashas. The drama was directed by Ashok Unakal and choreographed by Suma Unakal.
The guest of the occasion Mallappa Bhimappa Kudari from Belgaum, who spoke to the audience about the importance of using and conserving Kannada language in today’s world.
Jugal Bandhi – Hindustani vocal, violin and tabla performances were rendered by by Raghuram, Santosh Kulkarni and Master Sanjay Mannangi.
The highlight of the evening was a mimicry performance by ‘Mimicry Dayanand’ from Mysore. Dayanand is a well-known personality from the Kannada film industry; he has the ability to imitate108 different voices of different famous personalities. Radio jockey, Dayanand, through his talents, has been trying his best to create awareness among the people on different matters through his performances.
During the second half of the show, Dayanand, well supported by local artiste, Laxmi Madhu, entertained the audience with some touching songs.
For the stage programme, M R Qureshi, second secretary from the Indian embassy, was the chief guest, while Sridar of MEP Department of QDC was the guest of honour. ICC President, K M Varghese, Prof Kudari, Dayanand, along with the president, vice- president and general secretary of KSQ, were present on the dais. ‘Sreegandha, souvenir brought out on the occasion, was released at the venue.
Tulukoota Qatar staged the ‘Benni Dance’, with the participation of Ganesh, Kamalaksha, Kishan, Mahesh, Praveen, Pushparaj, Sharath, Subramanya, Tuluchandra and Vijay Kumar. This dance was choreographed by Mahesh and Kishore, with support from Subramanya and Jyothi.
KSQ ladies staged a drama titled, ‘Kanya Kapata’, authored by M S N Murthy, directed by Milan Arun, and coordinated by Roopa Pramod. Della, Hema, Rajashree, Vanitha and Vani donned different roles in the play.
Lucky dip draw was conducted and attractive prizes were given out. Vote of thanks was proposed by the cultural secretary of KSQ, Subramanya. The evening concluded with a dinner.
