Mangaluru Mar 24: Police arrested seven people for violating prohibitory orders under Section 144 which is in place in the district.

The arrested has been identified as James (45), resident of Hassan presently working as Prabhat theatre watchman, Vimesha (30), resident of Chikkamagaluru working at Jeevan Deepa publication, Ameera Haju Ansari, resident of Uttar Pradesh presently at Kudroli, Balram Chaudary (32), resident of Rajasthan, present at Kudroli, Rahul Pandey (18), resident of Assam, present at Bunder, Siddique from Ullal and Vinay from Thokkottu.

It may be recalled, prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in Dakshina Kannada in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic that is rapidly making its presence felt in the state.

The district administration has now imposed Section 144 till midnight of March 31.

    Better display the meaning of section 144, curfew and lock down on prominent places in local language so the general public can follow. All are not educated in our society. Also provide enough uninterruped food for 21 days for the citizens so that those days finish in good manner avoiding chasing and beating the poor who are worried about their daily bread.

    In this case one has to do the videography of that said shop and call 100 and lodge complaint without any hesitation. This time is not to make money but to help each other. First of all these shopkeepers should be happy to make business where many others have shut down. Such people are greedy and not happy how much they earned in the past... Accumulating wealth..

    And if we see the history ,we have seen what happens to hoarders at the end when general public gets angry when law fails to control the shop keepers.. ...the shopkeeper ends up with empty shop ...

    Goergee... They didn't predict properly... Now blame to those who didn't ........ I feel chicken prices are less due to the break out of the bird flu in Kerala and now in Mysuru........Many here buy chicken in kgs. and prepare varieties of delicacies. Some shop keepers out of greed increased the rates against whom you can lodge complaint. Now tell me when will be the rains in Mangalore this time?

    Section 144, is congregation of more than 5 people. If I am not mistaken.

    Individuals always have exceptions if they have valid reasons. Problem is our police think, there should not be any one in the street. There should be a practical way around.

    I agree with you. Section 144 is different from curfew.If all of them had gatherd at one place police is right,if they had gone to purchase essential commodities the arrested persons are not at fault,if they had just gone to open their shops is there anything in IPC or CPC that prevents them from doing so? Will an advocate or knowledgeable person enlighten us? Tomorrow it could be my or your turn.

    Yes.. Exactly... Just now my friend informed me from Belman saying police have asked to shut down the grocery shop which the shopkeeper kept half open in the morning.. Government says medical stores/grocery shops/ milk booths to be kept open But, police do not allow the necessary shops to keep open. Is this curfew or section?? Confusing.. M

    Govt. Should some arrangements of minimum daily necessities. Otherwise how people will survive just by staying indoors ? Many people do not even have roof over their heads.
