Kuwait, Nov 22: Sharq United won the 2nd KCWA Cricket Cup 2009 held for its members on Friday November 20 at Ahmadi grounds, Kuwait.
The matches began at 7:15am, with 8 teams on board. All the matches were of 8 overs per innings with the batsman retiring after scoring 30 runs. The 1st phase of the match was conducted on league basis with 2 pools having 4 teams each. Pool A consisted of Salmiya Friends, Mangalore Stars, V.I.P. XI, Kuwait India Cricket Club A (KICC A) & poll B consisted of Sharq United, President’s XI, Blue Rangers & KICC B. From pool A Mangalore Stars & KICC-A and from poll B Sharq United & Salmiya Friends qualified to the Semi-finals.
In the Finals, Sharq united defeated the defending champions Mangalore Stars and lifted the trophy. After winning the toss Sharq United captain Arthur Lewis elected to bat. With the help of superb and skillful batting by Kiran Lobo (35), Ian Misquith (33) and Claud (23) Sharq United amassed a highly distinguished total of 138 in 8 overs. In response, Mangalore stars with the help of Arun (30) could make only 75 runs by losing 5 wickets.
Earlier, in the 1st semi-Final, Mangalore stars defeated Blue Rangers and in the 2nd Semi-Finals, Sharq United defeated KICC A and qualified to the Finals.
The winners & runners up teams were rewarded with glittering Trophies & individual cups to all the players.

Lancy won the ‘most sixes in an innings’ award sponsored by Mr. Vally Sanctis, by hitting 5 sixes off just 7 balls. Special prizes for the losing teams sponsored by Mr. Melwyn Serrao were won by Steve (Best bowler) and Lucas (Best Batsman) both from KICC B. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Anil Fernandes and prizes were distributed by the sponsors present and Capt. Mohd. Al-Basri (KOC representative).

Mr. Archie Menezes was the match referee of the tournament, while Mudassar, Musharaf & Azam officiated the matches. Rudy D’Souza, Manohar Prabhu, Steven Machado, Wilfred Lobo and Binu Mathews thoroughly entertained the crowd with witty running commentary in various languages throughout the day. Steven Misquith provided lively DJ music. Sports Secretary Alex Rego with the help of the KCWA Management committee members successfully organized the whole event. All the participant players were provided with free lunch.
