Delhi woman’s murder was a planned hit, not crime of passion; three arrested

New Delhi, Apr 22: What initially appeared to be a crime of passion involving a rejected lover has now been exposed as a calculated contract killing. The chilling murder of 20-year-old Sayra Parveen in Delhi’s GTB Enclave on April 14 has taken a dramatic turn following a detailed police investigation.

Sayra, who had stepped out after dinner, was found lying in a pool of blood with two gunshot wounds. Her family, who had launched a frantic search after she failed to return, discovered her lifeless body on the roadside.

At first, the police arrested 20-year-old Rizwan, who confessed to the murder. He claimed Sayra had turned down his proposal, prompting him to shoot her in anger. However, as investigators dug deeper, they uncovered a disturbing backstory linked to a past murder.

According to Prashant Gautam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), the roots of the crime date back four months. At the time, Sayra was being harassed by a group of men in East Delhi’s Nand Nagri area. A passerby named Rahul intervened, leading to a violent confrontation in which he was fatally injured. Sayra was later named a key witness in the case.

Police revealed that Rahul’s uncle, Kishan, blamed Sayra for Rahul’s death, believing that had she not been involved in the altercation, Rahul would not have gotten involved or lost his life. Fearing that Sayra might turn hostile in court and jeopardize the case, Kishan, along with another associate Firoz, decided to eliminate her.

The two reportedly sought out someone who could carry out the killing. Rizwan, who aspired to earn a reputation as a local “dada”, agreed to the job. He befriended Sayra on social media, and after a few meetings, shot her during their third encounter on April 14.

Kishan allegedly paid Rizwan Rs 15,000 in advance and promised an additional Rs 1 lac after the act. He also provided him with a pistol and four bullets. Based on Rizwan’s confession and subsequent investigation, Kishan and Firoz were arrested on Sunday.

Police recovered the weapon used in the crime and part of the promised cash. It was also found that Kishan has three prior criminal cases registered against him.

The case, which initially appeared to be yet another instance of gender-based violence, has turned out to be a meticulously planned execution driven by vengeance and witness intimidation, highlighting the grim realities of street justice and social media manipulation.
