Udupi, Mar 19: Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha has directed private hospitals to admit coronavirus suspects when they approach hospitals. “Isolation wards with two beds should be arranged in private hospitals also,” he said.

“Ten beds ward is arranged in district hospital, five beds in taluk hospital and ten beds ward are arranged in KMC. Hundred beds will be arranged in the new library building if necessary. Thirty beds will be arranged in the beginning. An isolation ward will be arranged in the building. Any doctors can be contacted if necessary,” he said.

“As many as 230 people have arrived in Udupi from abroad. All of them have been contacted and are asked to remain at home. Those who violate home quarantine will be severely punished. Regarding a person from Kasargod who was reported positive for the virus, thirteen people of Udupi had travelled in the fight in which he arrived. All of them have been asked to remain at home. They are in good health,” he added.

“Do not visit government office without any urgent work. It is better if you do not come to the hospital for regular check-up. Please do not come for picnic, wedding and fairs in our district. Festivals, Annadana and holy book recitation meetings should not be held,” he told sternly to the temples. “We will register cases if Yakshagana is held. Be prepared to face legal action if you violate law. Action will be taken if people are seen in tourist centre. They will be sent back from the district border if necessary,” he said.

People travelled with Kasargod positive case should be quarantined in hospitals and not at their homes. Looks like Udupi administration and their MP and MLAs are not serious about the virus. Can be arranged is very wrong statement. Make arrangement on war footing. There may be increase of positive cases if proper precaution taken. One side you all closing everything and allowing suspected cases to go home. At home also they have their family's and children.

Admitting all suspected cases in district hospital isolation is not the solution. Once there are a spurt in the number of positive cases the hospitals will need every bed available to treat these patients. Strict home quarantine is to be implemented for these suspect travellers.
Health department staff have to educate the family members about what is to be done during quarantine and how to avoid contact with the suspected family member.
Health department staff have to educate the neighbours and should encourage them to inform the department if the suspect leaves the house or mingles with the neighbours.
