Mangaluru, Mar 19: Passengers arriving at Mangaluru International Airport from foreign countries are being stamped on the region above their knuckles. The stamping began on Thursday, as a measure to easily identify passengers who have arrived from foreign countries, in the backdrop of rapidly spreading of COVID-19.
The stamp consists the date specifying until when the passenger needs to be in quarantine. The passengers too are supportive of the decision and are cooperating with the authorities.
To ensure that people cannot wash off the stamp after they exit the airport, indelible ink which is used during voting is used for the stamp.
The move is a precautionary measure to control the spread of COVID-19. The government with the stamping aims to make passengers who have travelled abroad extra cautious and take all precautions.
The passengers who have arrived from foreign countries are divided in A, B and C categories. The passengers in ‘A’ category are directly taken to the hospital. Those in ‘B’ category are taken to government quarantine centers and those in ‘C’ category have to be in home quarantine.
