Chikkamagaluru, Mar 19: The people of Kottigehara in the district, on Wednesday March 18, shuddered at the sight of a Chinese tourist. They hesitated to talk to him and refused to give him room on hire. The fear of coronavirus is so much deep-rooted in the minds of the people that they have begun to develop cold feet at the sight of anyone from China now.
The people know that coronavirus infection which originated in China has claimed over 3,000 lives there. The dreaded disease has spread to other countries too. People with this infection number about 150 on India. As such naturally the people are hell bent on keeping themselves as far away as possible from this disease. At this time, a Chinese man named Pungim came to Kottigehara seeking room to stay. The sight of a Chinese was enough to send shivers down the spine of the locals.
As the people equate China with coronavirus they naturally were frightened at the sight of a Chinese citizen. Even after roaming around seeking rooms, Pungim failed to get a room. Therefore he pitched a tent next to the road and slept there.
Pungim came from Bengaluru in a Bullet motorbike. He was seen roaming around wihthout any mask. The locals handed him a mask but he assured the people that he was not infected with coronavirus and asked them not to be panicky at his sight.
