Mangalore, Nov 21: Speaking at a meeting of the parents of the students at the college premises on Thursday November 19, Yedapadav Swami Vivekananda PU college convener, Dr Mohan Alva, clarified that the college management has nothing to do with the Vamanjoor incident.
“For the mistakes committed by some quarters, the college management is being blamed. The members of the governing council of the college came to know about the incident, only after seeing the next day’s newspaper. Neither the principal, nor the physical education teacher, had informed us of the incident,” he explained at the meeting, which was attended by president of Vidyavardhaka Sangh, Mijar Anand Alva, vice-president, Jeevandhar Kumar, and some other members of the governing council.
“The management does not believe in getting itself entangled in incidents that occur outside the college. An incident that had occurred in the past too was not brought to our notice. The students, who are said to have gone for training or tournament, went without any circular about it. An aided educational institution is different from a government school, as it has its own limitations. We never have, and will, let caste and religion issues to influence the college matters. I have no political leaning,” Alva said.
He added that the average attendance of the students, who were suspended for indiscipline, was 25 days in the past 58 working days, and most of them had scored only single digit marks in the examinations. Their parents have been asked to come to the college on November 23, he said. “We will interfere in all matters that occur within the college premises,” he clarified.
Mijar Anand Alva wanted the college, which he and several others had built after facing lot of problems, to grow without any controversies.
