Mangaluru, Feb 3: ‘Sahyadri 10K Run Mangaluru’ organised by Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association- DKAA and promoted by Bhandary Foundation was held on Sunday, February 2, at Mangala Stadium, Mangaluru. With the tag-line of ‘Swaccha - Parisara - Hasiru - Usiru’, in order to accomplish this mission and to create awareness in line with Central Government’s Initiative of Fit India Programme, an event of such magnitude was organised.
‘Title Sponsor’ was Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru. Gurukiran, music director, was the brand ambassador.
The event was sponsored by Union Bank of India, Allcargo Logistics Ltd., Canara Bank, Hangyo Ice Cream, SCDCC Bank Ltd., Sams Techno Mach Pvt. Ltd., Qtalk, Ramakrishna Mission Mangaluru, Mphasis, Sleepwell, RDC Concrete, Garodi Steels, M. S Pai & Co. and Kanishka Gas Agency, Bengaluru.
There were various dignitaries and eminent personalities from different walks of life who graced this gigantic event of spreading awareness of a healthy environment.
The 10K Run was flagged off by guests B M Laxmi Prasad (IPS), superintendent of Police-DK; S S Dasila, TM, commander, Indian Coast Guard, Panambur; Swami Jithakamanandaji, Adhyaksha-Ramakrihsna Math, Mangaluru and Dr B Yashovarma, secretary, SDM Education Institution & Patron-DKA, SDM, Ujire.
The guests who flagged off 5K Competitive Run were Dr Shivakumar, registrar, Visveswariah Technological University (VTU), Belagavi; Pradeep G Pai and Deepa Pai, managing director, Hangyo Ice Cream Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru and Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, chairman, SCDCC Bank, Mangaluru.
2K Run for Boys was flagged off by Yogish Acharya, General Manager, Canara Bank, Mangaluru; Sagar Modi, founder & CEO, Quiph, Bengaluru; Kishore Alva, president, Adani Power Limited, Karnataka; K Govindaraj, MLC, president, Karnataka Olympic Association, Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru and Ajith Kumar Hegde S, Commissioner-City Corporation, Dakshina Kannada.
2K Run for Girls was flagged off by Dr Mohan Alva (Vivek Alva), chairman, Alva’s Education Foundation Trust (R), Moodbidri; Sindhu B Rupesh (IAS), deputy commissioner, RGUHS-Bengaluru; Dr B Vasanth Shetty, deputy registrar, RGUHS, Bengaluru; Jyothika, director, Thetherfi, Mangaluru; Deekshith Rai, CEO-Codecraft Technologies, Mangaluru; Srinivas Bhat, Head, HR-Diya Systems, Mangaluru, and Shipra Rai, Inclusion Manager, Mphasis Pvt Ltd, Mangaluru.
5K Maza Run Flag Off was by Dr P Subramanya Yadapadithaya, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, Mangaluru; K P Purushotham, vice-chairman, Sports Authority of Karnataka, government of Karnataka; Dr P S Harsha (IPS), commissioner of Police, Mangaluru; Vinay Hegde chancellor, NITTE Education Trust ®, Deralakatte, Mangaluru, and Shashikiran Shetty, chairman, AI Cargo Logistics Ltd, Mumbai.

There were over 200 invitees, 150 technical officials, and over 500 of general public who attended the event. Last but not least there were around 600 volunteers who took utmost care in preparations and setting up and smooth conducting of activities of the morning.
The runners with their enthusiastic participation and the various guests with their gracious presence made the Sahyadri 10K Run a memorable event to remember for years to come.
