Udupi, Feb 1: Udupi Power Corporation Limited operating two units of 600 MW power plants at Yellur village in the district, in association with its CSR wing Adani Foundation inaugurated two concrete roads in the limits of Palimar Gram Panchayat.
650-metre length Nandikuru – Berandikatte road which interconnects Palimar and Nandikuru villagers and 115-metre length connecting to Shambhavi Nagar, which were concreted at a project cost of Rs 25 lac were unveiled by Jeetendra Futrado, president of Palimar gram Panchayat and Kishore Alva, president of Adani UPCL.
Speaking on the occasion, Jeetendra Futrado expressed happiness on Adani Group’s initiation into village development works in the surrounding villages of UPCL plant. He informed that earlier villagers used to depend on the state highway for travelling to and from Nandikuru to Palimar which is 6 km in distance, but with this new concrete road connecting two villages Nandikuru and Palimar, the distance has reduced to 2 km and is much beneficial to the villagers. He further said that the long pending demand for a new road by the villagers has been fulfilled by Adani Group giving due consideration for the works given by the Panchayat under Kriya Yojana / Action plan.
Even the road connecting Shambhavi Nagar from Palimar Gram Panchayat Office was previously a dirt road making it difficult for the villagers to use, but now the villagers are benefitted by the concreting of the road Futrado added.
Later Kishore Alva announced that three years ago Adani UPCL had committed to deliver village development works in the surrounding seven gram panchayats to a tune of nearly Rs 23 crore in a phase-wise manner, out of which development works worth Rs 11.50 crore are completed. Under this commitment, Palimar gram panchayat’s share of development works was Rs 3 crore and to date, UPCL has executed eight works worth Rs 92 lac. The balance of development works shall be taken up by the company in the next financial years in a phase-wise manner.
The senior priest of Nandikuru Durga Parameshwari Temple informed that with the development of the new road, connecting Nandikur Temple to both Palimar and Nandikur village, facilitates devotees of both the villages to visit the temple. He thanked Adani Group for its concern in social development works.
Karunakara Shetty, past president of Palimar Gram Panchayat, Satish Devadiga, Gayathri Prabhu, Vasu Devadiga, Hemalatha Achary, Shivaram Poojary, members of Panchayat, Satish, PDO of Panchayat, Ravi R Jere, Sr Manager from Adani UPCL, Sukesh Suvarna, Vineet Anchan and Anudeep from Adani Foundation were present on the occasion.
