Mangaluru, Jan 31: A dog had fallen into a 30-feet deep well near the Ballabagh ground in the city on Thursday January 30. A woman proved her adventurist instincts and care for animals by climbing down the well. This video has become viral know on social websites.

The woman who showed exemplary courage happens to be Rajani Damodar Shetty Ballalbagh.

During the period when fight broke out between street dogs on Wednesday night, one of the dogs fell in the said well. People who went to the ground to play cricket on Thursday noticed that there was a dog inside the well. The locals got together, tied a tyre to a rope and lowered it in an effort to rescue the dog. Even though after some efforts, the dog rose a little, it lost balance and fell into the well. Even after efforts lasting three hours, the dog remained where it was.

After the people felt helpless in their efforts, one of them, Sachita Ballabagh, remembered about the animal lover, Rajani Damodar Shetty. She called her over mobile phone and sought help. Rajani called some people with request for help but none of them came forward to undertake the mission.

Frustrated, Rajani rushed to the well herself. In spite of opposition from others, she tied a rope to her waist and got down the well. After going down, she tried to tie the rope to the dog's body. She did not dither even when the dog tried to bite her. The well, full of white soil that was slippery, posed lot of challenges to her. Still, she managed to tie the rope around the animal, after which the woman and the dog were brought out.

She came in for lavish praise for her readiness to take risks to save animals and for being fearless.
