Kundapur: Prime Minister's office responds to citizens's letter on national highway mess

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Jan 27: Works connected with national highway expansion has been moving at snail's pace in the taluk since the last about ten years, thus giving rise to lot of problems for the road users and the general public alike. The pace of flyover work near Shastri Circle too has been agonizingly slow. A citizen from the city had written to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, drawing his attention to the fact that the general public are facing untold miseries on account of these things. In response, the person has received a letter from the office of the Prime Minister on Saturday January 25.

Vighnesh Shenoy, residing at B V S Road opposite Gandhi Maidan here had written to the Prime Minister. Shenoy says he chose to directly write to the Prime Minister, as the MP, ministers, legislators and officials, to whose attention these problems were brought, did not take the issue with the seriousness it deserves. Shenoy says he could not think of any other way but to get things done.

Vighnesh works at Santhekatte near Udupi. He had sent a detailed letter to Prime Minister's Office on December 24, 2019, giving details of various problems faced because of haphazard road work. The reply received from the PMO says that the matter has been already taken up with the secretary in the ministry of surface transport and highways.

Vighnesh Shenoy had written in his letter that highway work is in progress here since the last one decade, and the highway and service road are one and the same. He said because of the traffic jam in the morning and night, buses coming from far off places are facing problems. He also mentioned that toll collection at Hejamady and Sastan tollgates is on even though works on national highway 66 has not been completed between Suratkal and Kundapur. He had requested the Prime Minister to suspend toll collection till the road work is attended to completely.

Vighnesh Shenoy — please note: "The reply received from the PMO says that the matter has been already taken up with the secretary in the ministry of surface transport and highways."; please also note 'vision without affirmative action and results on the ground is hallucination', and this is true when the PM and PMO have no clue of ground realities.

We need an alternative road for those who do not wish to pay toll! Few kilometer longer is fine like most countries! These letters and response is mostly like pouring water on rocks, while MPs are least interested in connecting with peoples needs. Without NH66 completion....its couple of years people are made to pay toll that too Surathkal and Hejmady toll gates are 10 km apart! Who can close the Hejmady toll gate?? Once MP said it will be closed and contract will not be renewed! What made it not to happen?????

Not sure if its effective or anyone even cares.. !!

I had written a letter to PMO twice and yes they did acknowledge .. responding means action ...which i did not see happening even after complaining about garbage issue

The letter will be marked to few departments by PMO and asked to reply in 15 days and nothing happens...

    All the best...
