Mangaluru: Drug peddler arrested, 27 grams of MDMA seized

Mangaluru, Feb 25: The City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a drug peddler involved in the transportation and sale of the banned narcotic MDMA from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. The police seized 27 grams of MDMA from his possession.

Acting on a tip-off, the CCB police conducted an operation near Nehru Maidan under the Mangaluru South police station limits and arrested the accused, who was found selling the drug to the public and students.

The arrested has been identified as Asif alias Achi (32), a resident of Subhash Nagar House, Sajipamooda village, Naguri, Bantwal taluk.

The police confiscated 27 grams of MDMA worth Rs 1,35,000, a mobile phone, and a digital weighing scale, bringing the total value of seized items to Rs 1,45,500. A case has been registered at Mangaluru South police station.

According to police investigations, the accused had been purchasing MDMA from Bengaluru and transporting it to Mangaluru via bus to sell it to the public and students for illegal profit. Officials suspect that more individuals are involved in this drug trafficking network, and further investigations are underway to track down others linked to the operation.

Asif had previous drug-related cases registered against him in Suratkal police station in 2018, Vittal police station in 2021, and Bantwal Town police station in 2023.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of CCB ACP Manoj Kumar Naik, led by police inspector Rafeeq K M, along with PSI Sharanappa Bhandari, ASI Sujan Shetty, and other CCB personnel.
