Goa HC rejects plea, paves way for removal of internet cables

Panaji, Feb 25: The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court on Monday declined to grant a stay to the All-Goa Internet Service Providers’ Association against the electricity department’s move to cut internet cables from electricity poles due to policy violations.

Following the hearing, executive engineer Kashinath Shetye confirmed that the removal of cables across Goa would begin immediately. “The HC has refused to grant the stay. We have sought legal opinion and have been advised that we can go ahead,” he stated.

Shetye further revealed that internet service providers had failed to pay licence fees, penalties, and compensation for the past five years despite multiple notices. The department is now set to enforce compliance with regulations.
